AN INTRODUCTION TO INFANT AND YOUNG CHILD FEEDING

The Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding • Ginawa ng WHO and UNICEF to revitalize world attention on the impact that feeding practices have on infants and young children • May kinalaman ang malnutrisyon, direkta o hindi man para sa 60% of the 10.9 million deaths annually among children <5 years • Mahigit sa 2 sa bawat tatlo of these deaths occur in the first year of life

The Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding • Exclusive breastfeeding until the 1st 6th months of life • Tamang complementary feeding after the 6th months of life onwards • Kaya “Global strategy”- recommended to all nations, & to the rich & poor because this is the best practice for a child to grow well, healthy & intelligent.

Ano ang Exclusive Breastfeeding? Exclusive breastfeeding means pagpapasuso sa sanggol ng gatas ng ina lamang na walang binibigay na ibang pagkain o likido, kahit na tubig. Drops o syrups katulad ng vitamins & mineral supplements o gamot ay pinahihintulutan.

Ano ang Exclusive Breastfeeding? Lahat ng ina ay kayang-kaya ang pagpapasuso ng eksklusibo Virtually all mothers can breastfeed exclusively provided they have accurate information, and within their families and communities.

Ano ang complementary feeding? • Pagka-6 na buwan lahat ng sanggol ay nangangailangan na ng ibang pagkain bukod sa gatas ng ina, tinatawag itong “complementary foods”. • Kapag binigyan na ng complementary feeds, dapat ituloy ang pagpapasuso hanggang 2 taon o higit pa.
