Reaction Paper for the movie:

“Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros” The first moment I saw the title, I immediately thought of the movie as something that involves a common homosexual, who grows up to be a renowned, beautiful lady that actively participates in various pageants, thus climbing his way to his much desired fame. However, it went way more differently than I expected. The child was quite an optimistic kid, who was accepted by his family wholeheartedly. That’s one thing homosexual children commonly don’t have. Accepting parents. The story progressed nicely, and some scenes were definitely hilarious, mostly, the conversations between the boy’s family. Despite the absence of their mother, they were living as peaceful as they could. Midway, it is revealed that his father and siblings do illegal business, and that his father even has this possession of a gun, which is quite illegal. One night, Maxie was picked on by two men along an alley. But then, he is saved by a policeman (Victor), who he then begins to have a crush on. Curiosity gets over Victor, and he gets beat up by Maxie’s brothers and father. Maxie arrives to Victor’s house to help him, but when he realized Maxie’s intentions, they stopped meeting. Afterwards, because of the appearance of a certain person, Maxie’s father ends up being killed. Maxie’s brothers initially plotted to take revenge for their father’s death. But once Maxie told them he would become very lonely, thankfully enough, they stayed for him, and started to work safely, and not engage in illegal businesses anymore. After such events with the policeman, Maxie resists Victor's attempts to renew their friendship. Finally, a few years later, Victor sees Maxie heading to school. He drives ahead of Maxie and gets out of the car, apparently waiting for Maxie to get a hold of his attention. But, Maxie simply es by him. For a moment, Maxie hesitated on his steps, but decided to never look back. So, what I came to was that the title of “Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros” is that, it isn’t about Maximo turning into a girl, but rather, it is about Maxie learning grow up as a teenager. After all, in the final moment, he hesitated, but kept on his way. This moment proves that he was able to shake off his feelings for Victor, despite it being incomplete (for he still hesitated), and that he was able to proceed on his own way. In my opinion, that’s how you become a teenager yourself. It’s quite difficult to explain but this sums up about all of it.
